If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that the whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse
When I was at school my favourite class was “that’s right you guessed it” DRAMA!
The feeling I got once a week for an hour, performing and being creative in front of a bunch of my friends and peers, watching them laugh and respond to what I was doing or saying. Once a year we would put on a major production that everyone would put their time and ideas into. We would perform for our family and friends in a theatre and I would feel like a star. I was in my element, building confidence and doing something I really enjoyed.
Many years later, I am working my day job and I find myself singing in the shower, in the car – we all have that little silly moment we never show anyone… In today’s age people are so concerned about their image and persona that they are afraid to show their creative side.
So, in 2013, along with my fellow drama geek, Daniel Melody, we decided to put together the “JOME Club of Performing Arts” of like-minded adults to meet once a week and explore their inner talent that they have put away for many years (which is screaming to come out!).
Whether you want to build confidence, get comfortable talking in front of people, perform, sing, MC or just take up a fun hobby, make the leap and come down to a free trial – you have nothing to lose!
Please note JOME Club is currently only open to members age 18 and over.
Hi my name is Laura and I help Chris with the day-to-day running of JOME and host our new members Improv classes. Like all of us who join JOME, I have a passion for drama and the arts. I don’t really want to make it my whole life, though. I always enjoyed acting and goofing around but never really did anything about it. I’ve always been on the other side of the stage – writing, reviewing, costuming and playing in the band. After school I fell into working in the arts but not anything drama related! I wanted to get involved with the stage and see what it was like. After joining JOME I realised that I could get up in front of people and act!
JOME is just an encouraging environment for everyday adults to explore their creativity. I was able to get up the courage to get on stage and now I am a full-time coach and JOME’s resident Improv comedy host. JOME isn’t about being slick or putting on a professional show – it’s about meeting like-minded people, messing around on stage and being creative. It’s because of this and our passion that we put on really great shows.
Join us for an escape once a week and we can guarantee you’ll make friends for life.
JOME Club was started in 2013 by Chris Jones and Daniel Melody (hence the name – JOME!) and since then has seen over 100 people (at the moment JOME is just for over 18s) from all walks of life come through the club.
Designed as a social club, the idea of JOME is to foster creativity and a community feel towards the performing arts for adults who just want to perform for fun!
There are a lot of performing arts clubs and schools for children and teenagers, but not so many social-based clubs for adults. So if you’re looking for a relaxed, friendly, social atmosphere, as well as lots of opportunity to be on stage then JOME is for you!
We don’t care if you are a complete beginner or a Hollywood star, we endeavour to create shows and performances that shine the spotlight on all of our members regardless of experience.
Whether you’ve never acted before or haven’t done drama since high school, at JOME we aim to combine social club activities such as our famous JOMIES awards nights and after class drinks with weekly skill classes to create a unique and enjoyable theatre group for adults.
Working closely with our members we produce productions that encourage an inclusive method of casting… no auditions! And we promise not to cast anyone as a tree.
If the talk of performances scares you, don’t worry JOME is all about enjoying the journey and having the opportunity to be creative, have fun and meet new people!
All new members start out in our Improvisation Comedy class (taught by Laura!). This gives new members a chance to get to know each other and existing JOME members without the pressure of learning lines.
The Improv classes are helpful to every new member whether you’ve done drama before or not.
The Improv Comedy class begins with a 4 week free trial period, then if you’re keen to stay on and finish the class, you pay a $50 deposit to lock in your spot (we only allow classes of up to 15 members to ensure everybody has a turn in the spotlight). Then the classes run for 12 weeks, culminating in a live Improv Comedy performance which you can invite friends and family along to.
Once you’ve completed your Improv course, you can stay on and join the JOME productions!
So what are you waiting for?
